<text>
Whether it is desperation to play or a contrary commitment to “keep the music playing,” the Harold J Crosby band in Dexter, Maine made it happen during the summer with social distancing, separated audiences, special traffic patterns, and a pop up portable facility. Helping to have everyone hear the conductor at 30 feet away, environmental noise like fire trucks and ambulances and motor cycles, were the Retekess transmitter and receiver sets. Each player had a wireless ear piece tuned to the conductors transmitter allowing soft voice directions even during playing. A success for this unusual summer of limited performances in very rural Piscataquis and Penobscot Counties in Maine.

Preparing for the indoor season was a challenge achieved inspired by our 2019 Band Camp conductor Dr. Sam Woodard of the US Army ceremonial band and their method of rehearsal by Plexiglas. While we weren't as endowed as they are, our solution is simple and affordable.

Three panels of 4 mil crystal clear vinyl sheathing hinged together to make a 3 sided aerosol protection barrier around each player at least 6 feet apart seems to be the answer. The exclusive restricted use of a town hall building in Dexter on the 1900 basketball sized court makes it possible to set up once and leave it. Cross ventilation large window fans provides continuous circulation as recommended by the Maine CDC keeps the air clean along with bell covers on each wind instrument. Face coverings in the form of shields or masks are used by all when not playing.

We keep the music playing, prepare repertoire for the next season's events and keep well protected until other medical solutions are available.

              <text>From the Church Council

Over the past several weeks, the Re-Opening Committee, along with the Worship and Music Committee, have worked on the idea of how we might restart in-person worship at Redeemer. The goal was to identify ways to reduce risk from Covid-19 to offer a reasonably safe place and way to worship in person. We have reviewed information from the CDC, the NE Synod, ELCA, as well as information from the Wisconsin Council of Churches. We have reviewed on-line scientific reports and best practices information. This includes considering the effects of aerosol transmission of the virusl the amount of aerosol produced when speaking, singing, and humming; the level of ventialtion in our church, and the amount of protection different types of masks provide.

For the next several months we believe that our primary way to worship will be an on-line service each Sunday morning. However, we also acknowledge that some members of the congregation want to be able to worship in person at the church. To accomodate this desire, we will be ofering an outside worship opportunity twice a month starting July 26. In-person services will be different than in the past. We will need to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Because speaking and singing greatly increase the aerosols we all produce, we will not have singing nor unison responses. We will ofer communion using pre-sealed containers that have a wafer and grape juice.

Specific protocols for outside services are listed on the back of this letter--please review. If you have questions regarding why we are recommendin certain practices, please feel free to email Wally Jakubas at ---. He will group your questions into similar themes and will work with Council and Reopening Committee to develop responses to these questions. A question and answer document with the responses to your questions will be sent out. Questions can be directed to Council or the Reopening Committee. If after reading the responses you believe that a particular protocol should be changed, please let a member of the Congregational Council know what you would like to see adjusted.

Without Question there is no 100% safe way to reopen church that guarantees that no one will get Covid-19, but we also believe that the protocols approved by the Congregational Council offer a reasonably low-risk place to worship. Each member of the congregation needs to decide whether they are comfortable attending an in=person service or would rather continue worshipping via the on-line Sunday service.

Over the next months, things will change and new information will become available. The Reopening Committee and the Congregational Council will continue review new information and use it to inform our worship and meeting practices.

Protocol for In-person Worship Outdoors

In-person worship will begin with an outside service starting July 26, 2020. Additional in-person services will occur on August 16th, August 30th, and every other week thereafter as weather permits. If inclement weather develops, the in-person service wil not be moved into the church building but will be cancelled. An internet service will be available. The protocol for cancelling outdoor services will be made available to the congregationa as soon as possible.

For those who choose not to attend an in-person worship service, a pre-recorded internet service will be provided on YouTube. Live Zoom worship will be held on other Sundays.

Please do not attend in-person worship if you have a cold or are not feeling well.

Maintain a minimum of 6 feet of social distance and wear a face mask at all times. It is tempting to relax social distancing when talking to friends--please be vigilant.

Please hold conversations outside, rather than inside, of the church building. This will reduce the buildup of aerosols in the building and the chance of aerosol spread of the virus. Conversation produces 10 times the aerosols of normal breathing.

Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the church.

The church will maintain a list of those attending a service in the event we need to help with "contact tracing".

For the service, please bring your own lawn chair from home and place it on makred areas on the lawn. The markings will assure a minimum of 6 foot spacing for social distancing. Ushers will provide chairs for those people that cannot carry a chair or who did not bring one.

During the service, the congregation will not sing or respond in unison. Singing produces 60 times the aerosols as normal breathing; therefore, even singing outside is not recommended.

Communion will be celebrated in place, at your seat. Sealed communion cups of grape juice and a wafer can be picked up from a table and taken to your seat prior to the start of the service.

At the end of the service, the congregation will leave in a way that maintains 6 feet for social distancing. Masks should be worn until you are well clear of the church service area.

At this time, we will not be hosting a coffee or social hour. Exposure risk to the virus increases the more time we spend together.

If you need to enter the church to use the bathroom, please go directly to the bathroom. Do not use or enter the church office area or Fellowship Hall. One person at a time in the church bathrooms; please leave the ventilation fan on when you leave. The ventilation fan will remove the aerosols which otherwise could remain airborne a long time. Disinfectant sprays and paper towels will be available in the bathrooms, and hand sanitizers will be outside bathroom doors.

At this time the Reopening Committee feels that there are too many open questions associated with an in-person service inside the church building to recommend that option. We will continue to work to identify safe practices so that we might have an in-person service in the church building as soon as possible.</text>

              <text>July 13, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian/Student,

After a successful class of 2020 Graduation two weeks ago, I would like to update you on information concerning the opening of school on September 1st, 2020, which will be a new student day. I would like to caution that all information is fluid and can change quickly and I will communicate to you immediately if there are significant changes.

Of course, Foxcroft Academy’s goal is to open the Academy as safely as possible, using CDC guidelines and scientific best practices. With six-foot physical distancing in place, we are busily determining the capacity of each room, hallway passages, bathrooms, etc. to ensure that we do not exceed our safe capacity. We are doing our very best to obtain hand sanitizer, proper cleaning supplies, plexiglass barriers, and the necessary equipment to support a well cleaned Academy on a consistent basis. Protocols and procedures are being developed to guide our daily practices that will support in-person instruction. We are also coordinating with RSU 68, to help support families with students at SeDoMoCha and Foxcroft Academy. It is our goal that we have our students in-person as much as possible.

Here are important points that, at this time, will be in place:

All people inside the Academy will be wearing a mask. Each student will be provided with a cloth mask but would be allowed to bring one from home. A protocol will be in place for students who need a break from wearing a mask during the day. The science behind wearing a mask is very clear on the ability to lessen the spread of COVID-19.

All classes will have an online base, with in-person instruction supporting the curriculum. This is being done as students (boarding and day) may choose to stay home and in the likelihood of a case of COVID-19 occurring at school, the Academy will be closed for a quarantine period (a minimum of one week) and instruction can continue.

We are encouraging that if possible private transportation is used to come to school in lieu of busing. This may increase the ability to attend throughout the week and also free up busing for students who will need it as their primary transportation. This of course is voluntary.

There are many variables that need to be considered and they are changing almost weekly. I will continue to keep you posted and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. We will continue to work together to face the challenges in these historic times.

My best regards,

Arnold Shorey, Head of School</text>

<text>From the desk of the Head of School

Reflections on the Last Three Months/Planning for 2020

The faculty members of Foxcroft Academy were so happy to be able to come on Monday, June 8th to reflect on the close of the second semester and start the seemingly impossible task of planning for the fall of 2020. Here are some major points that have come to the forefront.

At the time of writing this report, 101 out of the 114 seniors have met all the standards and requirements for graduation with 11 seniors very close to meeting their standards for the June 27th graduation (so there is still time for the seniors to be in good standing). This was due to tremendous effort on the part of seniors and teachers, especially during the transition from in-person to remote learning.

The number of students able to participate in the boarding program this upcoming fall is in question, though we continue to receive applications and undergrad students plan to return if they are able to do so. We have some boarding students staying throughout the summer to ensure that they are able to return to school in the fall and not risk being unable to return from their country. This past spring, we were successful in having 40 boarding students remaining at Foxcroft Academy, restricted to the campus for over 12 weeks avoiding exposure to COVID-19. Quarantining and testing are in the plans for the future to properly screen students arriving at Foxcroft Academy before they enter the school population.

At the writing of this report, it appears to be possible to have an outdoor graduation on Oakes Field where graduates and immediate family members will be able to spread out wearing masks in the outdoors. Graduation will be on June 27th at 7 pm with a rain date scheduled for Sunday at 9 am. Dr. Mark Stitham ‘68 is the graduation speaker with Mr. Wayne Strout as the faculty speaker. Clark LaChance is the salutatorian and Ethan Curtis is the valedictorian. Senior Tea will take place this Friday (moved from Thursday due to the rainy forecast) at 1:45 pm on the east lawn and front lawn keeping the size of the group less than 50 at each site. Chief Reardon has been instrumental in working with Foxcroft Academy in helping these plans become a reality.

There are plans in place to support students whose grades have suffered due to the abrupt change from inperson instruction to remote learning. Each case will be considered on an individual basis with teacher and parent meetings. This summer there will be a Special Education credit recovery program, thanks to RSU 68, a Foxcroft Academy credit recovery program, and in conjunction with Principal Gudroe, the Freshman Academy will take place in late July for up to 15 eighth graders that will need to meet unmet standards before starting their freshman year (this will be the fifth year of the Freshman Academy to help with the transition from 8th grade to high school with a very good track record). In the fall, students will have the opportunity to make use of the academic support program to also make up unmet standards.

Planning for next year is a very difficult thing to do as we are unsure of CDC and State guidelines. We hope that we will be fully in session with all students present (all constituents want this). If remote learning is mandated, both teachers and students have three months of experience that we will continue to build upon. Monday’s inservice was spent on developing our best guess of what the school year will start like. We are anticipating that blended learning will be the model in place. This is the combination of using online learning in conjunction with in-person learning driven by physical distancing that will still need to be in place. Safety protocols will include: daily screening as students and staff enter the building, everyone wearing a mask, cleaning routines during the day and after school. Protocols and procedures guiding hallway traffic, bathroom use, lunchroom seating, locker room use, etc. Many variables need to be considered in scheduling students on a twice a week schedule such as access to science labs, in-person assessments, hands on activities (welding, small engines, etc.), students who need in-person support, siblings who attend SeDoMoCha, limitations due to traveling on the bus, etc. As you can see there are a lot of considerations and we will be communicating throughout the summer including possible Parent Advisory Council meetings as we are able to firm up the plans.

I cannot thank the students, parents, teachers, and our community enough for their Herculean efforts in adjusting to and supporting student remote learning. Collaboration and communication will still be needed as we adjust to the possibility of a blended learning model where flexibility and adaptability will be a must. I think we all can agree that we are fortunate to live where we do!</text>

              <text>April 2, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

With a new executive order delivered by Governor Mills on Tuesday afternoon, I would like toprovide you an update of what Foxcroft Academy is doing. For the past two and a half weeks, Foxcroft Academy has been operating on an “essential staff status” as we support student online learning as well as caring for the health and safety of 41 boarding students. Here are some reminders and information that will be in place until May 1st in accordance with theexecutive order.

The Governor stated that schools will stay closed at least until May 1st. In all likelihood, everyone should be prepared for online learning continuing for the rest of the year.

Foxcroft Academy is closed to the public which means students should not pick up ordrop off material. Through Rowell’s and Weymouth’s bus services, materials willcontinue to be picked up or delivered. Please continue to email Ms. Smith and Ms.Weatherbee to make arrangements. The lunch/breakfast pickup will continue between10 am and 12 noon, Monday, Wednesday, Friday at all of the same locations including Foxcroft Academy (10-11 am). Lunch and breakfast pick up will not take place during April break, April 20th - April 24th.

Unfortunately, and in compliance with the executive order, the Burns-Johnson Tennis Complex will be closed to not promote large groups and to continue social distancing. The track is closed between 2 pm and 7 pm for boarding students and dorm families touse. If you do use the track during the other hours please practice social distancing. Foxcroft Academy is proud to share its facility with the public, but during this crisis, our focus needs to promote best practices that prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Within the next few weeks, there will be official announcements concerning Spring sports and we are predicting that they will be canceled.

It is heartbreaking that these steps need to be taken and it is obvious that we all need to participate in similar actions to do our part to fight COVID-19. Teachers are reporting good participation and effort by the students in their online learning. Please keep in mind that all of our support services are in place and ready to assist students and families in any way that we can. We certainly want students to be actively engaged, but more importantly, we want your family to be well and safe. It is going to take all us working together and making sacrifices to overcome this pandemic.

All my best,

Arnold Shorey</text>

              <text>Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing to inform you that Foxcroft Academy in conjunction with RSU 68 will be closed starting on Monday, March 16, 2020, and will reopen on March 30, 2020, pending guidance from the CDC and the DOE. A great deal of scrutiny went into this decision, but in light of the new information concerning the importance of “social distancing,” it was decided that Foxcroft Academy should close.

We realize that this is a difficult time for families and students and Foxcroft Academy is dedicated to help and support in any way that we can. Communication is essential and we ask that you direct the students to check their student emails for information that will come from their teachers. Also, we will set up a Covid19 web page on our website, www.foxcroftacademy.org , so that you can better track correspondence that will periodically come from the Academy.

Information is rapidly changing and here are some major informational points that you need to know:

In conjunction with RSU 68 and Rowells transportation service, any family that wants to participate in the lunch program needs to email the Director of Food Services, Rhonda Tyler at rhonda.tyler@foxcroftacademy.org . Lunches will be delivered starting on Wednesday to “drop off” points in each community and the locations will be announced at a later date.

If your student needs material, such as an iPad, book, etc. they can come to the gym lobby to get the material between 8am until 3pm, Monday through Wednesday. If this is not possible, please contact the school and arrangements will be made to have the items delivered in some manner.

Once again, please have students monitor their student emails for guidance from their teachers.

If you are in need of the Internet, please contact the Director of Technology, Robert Brown at robert.brown@foxcroftacademy.org and we will try to assist as the State of Maine has announced a program that will provide free wifi in your home.

It is important that we all have patience and flexibility as we are in unfamiliar times. Foxcroft Academy is prepared to “walk our talk” and role model how to apply a growth mindset that we often implore our students to do. This means that we will learn a great deal through this experience, and through this knowledge, our focus is supporting the students and their families.

Sincerely,

Arnold Shorey, Head of School
Foxcroft Academy</text>

              <text>Good afternoon folks,

The following is a message from Foxcroft Academy Head of School, Arnold Shorey. Please have a safe weekend.

To Foxcroft Academy Community,

From our family to yours, we sincerely wish and hope that you are safe and well. In accordance with Governor Mills' executive order issued this past Tuesday, we are closing the outdoor basketball court and not putting the nets up on the tennis courts so as not to promote group gatherings of over 10 people and violating the six feet social distancing protocol. Soon, the snow will be off the track and as long as the guidelines from Maine CDC are followed, the public may use the track. However, the track will be closed to the public between the hours of 2 pm-7 pm so that our boarding students may have the opportunity for physical activity. Please remember that we are pseudo-parents to 45 remaining boarding students and we are also practicing social distancing as we are doing all that we can to keep the students safe and well.

We look forward to the time when everything returns to normal. Again, please remain safe and well!

All my best,
